Darjeeling’s Pride: Pratima Rai Becomes First NCC Girl from Bengal to Conquer Everest
In a landmark achievement that blends grit, grace, and Himalayan glory, Pratima Rai, a 19-year-old student from Ghum, Darjeeling, has become the first NCC girl cadet from Bengal to summit Mount Everest.
🏔️ A Historic Climb
Pratima, a political science student at St. Joseph’s College, was the sole representative from Bengal in an all-girls National Cadet Corps (NCC) expedition. She was selected from among hundreds of cadets nationwide after a rigorous selection process that began in September 2024.
The mission began from Delhi in March 2025, culminating in triumph when the team reached Everest's summit at 3 AM on May 18.
